Neem Oil Mix Calculator Guide
Use this neem oil mix calculator to blend the right amount of cold-pressed neem oil and mild soap emulsifier for your sprayer. Enter sprayer volume and concentration (0.5% maintenance or 1.0% active treatment) to get teaspoon and milliliter amounts.
How to use the neem oil mix calculator
Enter sprayer volume in gallons and select 0.5% for maintenance sprays or 1.0% for active pest or disease pressure. The calculator returns neem oil and mild liquid soap amounts.
Soap acts as an emulsifier so neem oil disperses in water instead of floating on top.
Neem oil dilution formula
Sprayer volume (ml) = Gallons × 3,785.41. Neem oil (ml) = Volume (ml) × (Concentration % ÷ 100). Emulsifier soap (ml) = Neem oil (ml) ÷ 2 (common 2:1 oil-to-soap ratio).
Convert to teaspoons: ml ÷ 4.929. A 0.5% solution in 1 gallon ≈ 19 ml neem oil and 9 ml soap.
- Neem ml = gallons × 3785.41 × (pct / 100)
- Soap ml = neem ml / 2
- 0.5% = maintenance; 1.0% = active infestations
- Use cold-pressed neem with azadirachtin for best results
Worked example
A 1-gallon sprayer at 0.5% neem concentration: Volume = 3,785 ml. Neem oil = 3,785 × 0.005 ≈ 18.9 ml (about 3.8 tsp).
Mild soap emulsifier = 18.9 ÷ 2 ≈ 9.5 ml (about 1.9 tsp). Mix oil and soap first, then add water and agitate.
When to use neem oil
Neem oil controls aphids, whiteflies, spider mites, and some fungal issues on contact and as a systemic when absorbed. It is OMRI-listed for many organic programs but can harm beneficial insects on direct contact — spray in evening when pollinators are less active.
Application tips
Shake or agitate constantly while spraying — neem separates quickly. Test on one leaf and wait 24 hours before full application. Do not apply in direct sun on hot days.
- Reapply every 7–14 days while pests are active.
- Avoid spraying open flowers when bees are foraging.
- Pair with insecticidal soap for heavy soft-bodied pest outbreaks.
- Store neem concentrate cool and dark — it degrades in heat.
